Chapra (Saran) |
Chapra or Chhapra is a very old
town/city of North Bihar of India. The place is
also known as Saran in Geography text book. Though it is a listless place of India known
once for its Longest Railway Platform, it has been cradle of Indian & Bihar politics.
Our First President Dr. Rajendra Prasad hails from this place. All the who's who of Indian
politics, past & present, have visited this place. Jayaprakash Narayan -
JP, the
biggest stalwarts of post Nehru era, was also born here, in Sitabdiyara Village.
Laloo
Prasad also hails from Saran ( his Birth place is now known as Gopalganj) and plays
politics in its backdrop. Bhikhari Thakur, a pioneer in the field of Nautanki, of Bidesia
fame, was born and grew up here. His matchless rendering of his own Bhojpuri lyrics is still
remembered and he has set many a standards in music industry. Recently he has been declared
as father of modern nautanki by IPTA. Chitragupt, the famous music
composer of Bollywood, of Rafi & Mukesh era, of "Chal ud ja re panchhi,
ke ab des hua begana...from (Film "Bhabhi")" fame, hailed from
saran and his son Anand-Millind is still bringing glory to this place. Who can
forget their song from QSQT, "Papa Kahate hai Bada nam karega..."
which lauched Amir Khan into incredible stardom.
Bhojpuri is dialect of this place. Hindi is the main language. Ara (Arrah), Ballia (Balia),
Chapra and Deoria, the Bhojpuri heartland, are known as
"ABCD" of India due to their people's congruence of language and culture. People
of this "ABC" region has taken Bhojpuri across the Indian boarder to far away
places in Fiji, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago, Surinam and Guyana
when their forefathers were settled
there as indentured labourer by Imperial forces. They have adopted there new homeland but
still have Bhojpuri in their blood.
Chapra, or Saran, does not find place on map of Bihar Tourism.
However it has many places worth mentioning. World famous Sonepur - Mela, Gautam Sthan- Ahilya taran, Ambica Sthan,
Mahendra Nath Temple & Doriganj (Chiran) where a temple of Raja Maurdhwaj is located,
who offered his son body to beggar when his devotion & penance was tested by
Lord Vishnu.
In Chapra city, the famous Temple of Dharamnath ji and
Court(Kot) ki Devi, Peer Baba Near Zila School are very famous and hundreds of
people visit this place daily.
